Reading List #2: January 21, 2013

It's the fourth week of January and a bit behind my quota of posts for this blog as school became very hectic lately, what with the daily quizzes I receive from various subject ranging from readable minors to mind-boggling majors. Our university week is finally coming up and I have the whole week to myself, and hoping to update daily and write about things happening. Currently I am somewhat preoccupied with my new assignment for the school publications which is to illustrate the poems for the university magazine. Sadly, I've only finished one and will not be able to post it here (if I'll post it I'm sure I'll have to tweak it first and put a big watermark). Anyways, let's get down to business.

First on my reading list is J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, and no, I did not just read this because of the film adaptation of The Hobbit but because I just felt that my mind needed a little rest from reality and a little spice from the wonderful world of Elves, Dwarves, Hobbits and others. At the moment, I am in 'The Council of Elrond' chapter and I cannot wait till the fellowship sets for Mordor. I have watched the movie and I just can't stop saying that the first ten chapters of the book is only a good 30 minutes from the almost 3-hour film adaptation.

Though a little bit out of my league, I enjoy every bit about the story because it's different from Harry Potter, Eragon and other urban fantasies I have read. It gives me a nostalgic feeling of home. I can smell the fresh air of nature, no to mention imagine that the roads are not littered by non-biodegaradable garbage that is quite present nowadays.

I expect to finish the book two days from now and so I can start reading my next book (which will be featured next). Hopefully I could cover a third of it while being present at school doing nothing.

Next on my list is John Green's An Abundance of Katherines, which I think is another coming-of-age novel. I have high expectations from the book as the last John Green novel I have read blew my world and I enjoyed writing my own views from the discussion questions. Though I think my copy of the An Abundance of Katherines does not contain discussion questions penned by the author himself, I will surely find a way to find answer-worthy questions (since the discussion questions I have found for The Perks of being a Wallflower was somewhat crappy and I surrendered brainstorming for answers in the middle of the whole set as I think it was too objective).

If I presumed correctly, the book is about a teenage boy who is somewhat an obsessive-compulsive case wherein he seemed to be attached with dating girls who had the first name by Katherine, yet I think a girl with a different first name was meant for him and the story goes one with how he reacts to it. Hopefully I can finish the book within two days so I can make a review about it and happily get on with my obnoxiously busy life.

As a special bonus, my aunt has tipped me off with the coming of Dan Brown's newest novel for the Robert Langdon series entitled 'Inferno' this May 2013. Dan Brown's novels were exhilarating and I can't wait to feel the excitement. For more info of Inferno, check out their official page here: http://www.danbrown.com/inferno/

I hope to finish my mountains of books soon, and I'd love to make reviews for them. xx
