Books for my Birthday (?)

Currently, I am down and depressed so I went to my safe haven: the Bookstore. Specifically National Book Store to calm my nerves and just breathe in the beautiful scent of the books stacked on the shelves.

Lately, I have this surprising penchant for international bestsellers. So I went to that rack category and found myself Gabriel Marquez Garcia, Jessica Hagedorn, Haruki Murakami, Chuck Palahniuk and others. So here's a list of some books of these authors that I want to acquire for my birthday.

Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel Marquez Garcia. I have heard of this novel before but didn't gave it much thought until I realized earlier that the author is the same one who wrote A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings. This is the latest pieces we have tackled on our World Literature class and found it very philosophical underneath the magical realism theme.

I am looking forward into reading this and I hope to get a copy soon.

After Dark, After the Quake and South of Border, West of the Sun are some of Haruki Murakami's books that I want to explore. I'd like to see literature through a Japanese author's eyes.

Choke and Rant are two of Chuck Palahniuk's novels that I want to discover more. Based on reviews, he has an intriguing way of putting up the pieces of his literary compositions.

I was intrigued by Jessica Hagedorn's title which is Dogeaters. I thought it was the same story I have taken up last year in my Philippine Literature class. Sadly, it's not. But, the story's setting is in the Philippines. As I have searched, the is set on post-dictatorial regime of Ferdinand Marcos. I will have to find that out for myself when I grab a copy of this.
