Title: First Love
Author: James Patterson, Emily Raymond
Genre: Contemporary Romance, Young Adult
Synopsis (from Goodreads): An extraordinary portrait of true love that will move anyone who has a first love story of their own.
Axi Moore is a "good girl": She studies hard, stays out of the
spotlight, and doesn't tell anyone how all she really wants is to run
away from it all. The only person she can tell is her best friend,
Robinson--who she also happens to be madly in love with.
When Axi spontaneously invites Robinson to come with her on an impulsive cross-country road trip, she breaks the rules for the first time in her life. But the adventure quickly turns from carefree to out of control after the teens find themselves on the run from the police. And when Robinson suddenly collapses, Axi has to face the truth that this trip might be his last.
A remarkably moving tale very personal to James Patterson's own past, FIRST LOVE is testament to the power of first love--and how it can change the rest of your life.

Review: As the story progress, it dawned on me how it is very much similar with John Green's 'The Fault In Our Stars' but it proved me wrong. It may have the same cancer key elements, but Axi and Robinson are like badass Gus and Hazel gone Bonnie and Clyde having the time of their lives on stolen cars, random people and eating packs of Slim Jims.
Axi reminded me of the typical girl who has her focus on being the perfect little girl, but in her case, just to escape the reality of her family. There are really those children from a broken family who push themselves to the limit just to compensate their loss but in time, they'll eventually blow up. As for Axi's case, she manifested this 'blowing up' by cutting the last few weeks of class to prove something to herself.
Robinson comes to me as the golden boy everyone likes, wants to be friends with and be the guy every girl falls in love with. He comes as a mystery, then becomes my nightmare and later, broke my heart. His effort to experience love and its sweet tendrils is a bit too far-fetched, but hey, if a person is suffering from a terminal disease, sometimes their measures to achieve their goals may not be considered as normal to us.
The story is a constant reminder that we should loosen up and take risks sometimes. Risk is a very hard word to do, but the outcomes are sometimes learning points, but most of the time wonderful memories.
