HPConfessions No. 1

Sirius Black used to scare me when I first saw him as the Grimm and a madman who broke out of Azkaban in the third installation of the Harry Potter movie franchise. I think I was in fifth grade that time and I wasn't yet captivated by the world of novels and this particular series.

After watching the movies several times and have fully read and understood the books, he became one of my favorite HP characters. He's this great godfather who tried to compensate thirteen years lost with his orphaned godson. I cry everytime I recall his gift to Harry, the Firebolt.

His disposition in life and temperament are few of the things I admire from him. Even when in grief and abandonment, he still has the courage to put on his happy mask and joke around when they were younger. His loyalty to James and Remus is also a remarkable quality a friend should ideally possess. This is true friendship. Managing through all the mischief and madness.

He has always been there, even in the very start. He lent Hagrid his motorbike so Harry could be delivered to the Dursleys so as to be sheltered from the wizarding world and he'd live safely. He is a self-sacrificing wizard, even until the end.

He died trying to save the wizarding community from being usurped by the Dark Lord again. And nothing else broke my heart than it did. Truth be told, Bellatrix is one of my favorite characters (I have a fetish for bad guys), but I deeply hated her with what she did. It pierces my heartstrings every single time that scene comes to show.

Though I have accepted his ill-fated death and now I have realized his importance to the story, I now view his death a heroic one. A death that should be filled with pride.
